OUR
SCHOOL

Chantry Community Primary School is located in Gravesend, Kent.

Gravesend is a historic town in northwest Kent, situated on the south bank of the River Thames, opposite Tilbury in Essex. It is part of the borough of Gravesham and has a rich maritime history. The town is known for its connections to Pocahontas, who is buried at St. George's Church. Gravesend also features the magnificent Sikh Temple, one of the largest in Europe, and the newly refurbished Gravesend Borough Market, dating back to 1268.

We are an integral part of the Beyond Schools Trust with a family of ten schools. Within our Trust we have Balfour Juniors, Warren Wood Primary, Hilltop Primary, Chantry, Greenacre and Walderslade Partnership, Robert Napier, Phoenix Primary, Thomas Aveling and Fort Pitt. We collaborate relentlessly to ensure we are as a Trust consistently moving and learning for the benefit of our pupils and their futures.

OUR
VALUES

We share the belief that education is not for children but for the adults they will become. We encourage young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. ‘Character Development’ is at the heart of all we do within Chantry Community Primary School both within the curriculum and in extracurricular activities. We encourage our children to reach their full potential both in their academic and personal progress  throughout their time at school and to follow the values everyday whether they are in school or out.

Our Character Development values are woven through the curriculum in all lessons and our RECIPE acronym is referred to constantly during the day, reminding the children of what this means to them.We want all our children to have the essential skills for their future whatever they decide to do:

•     Confident and equipped with soft skills
•     Equipped with life skills so they can be independent
•     Understand their role in the community and wider society
•     Fully equipped and ready to get the best out of their secondary education
•    To be aware of the world and different cultures
•     Have a good knowledge of the workplace and how to behave

Regular Character Development/Career Assemblies are held by a variety of individuals, businesses and organisations to widen the childrens’ knowledge of the outside world and to give them an insight into the many different jobs that are available.

Our strategy is an integral part of our school, equipping children with the vital skills they need for secondary school and adult life.  We believe that every child can reach their potential and our caring and dedicated staff will allow them to achieve this. Children should become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background.

SAFEGUARDING & VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL

All Chantry school staff wear a red lanyard printed with ‘Chantry Community Primary School’ in white text.

Upon arrival at the school, visitors are required to sign in at Reception. They must then wear a coloured lanyard with their photo ID sticker (that must be visible at all times).

Visitors are either given a green or yellow lanyard:

Green lanyards mean that they have the appropriate checks and able to work with children unaccompanied.

Yellow lanyards mean that visitors must be collected from Reception and accompanied by a designated member of staff at all times. A Chantry member of staff must be present for all interactions with children.

On departure, visitors must sign out and return their lanyards to Reception before leaving the premises.

OPERATION ENCOMPASS
The aim of Operation Encompass is to support families who have experienced domestic Abuse.  Operation Encompass is a national safeguarding partnership between the Police and Schools. It involves the Police reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next day, when a child has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic abuse incident. This enables one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads to offer immediate support to a child who has been affected by this.

Children were recognised as victims of the Domestic Abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act. Domestic abuse has been identified as an adverse childhood experience and can lead to emotional, physical and psychological harm. If you feel you are affected by Domestic Abuse or need support, we are here to help. Any information provided will be managed with the highest level of security and confidentiality, and full accordance with GDPR.
